Gabby Krause was an amazing six-year old who died in September 2004 after a courageous 19-month battle with brain cancer.  The Gabby Krause Foundation/ Bags of Fun organization delivers bags of fun, educational and interactive toys to children fighting cancer and other long-term illnesses. This organization is very near and dear to the Sundance Sailfish community.

Gabby Krause swam at Sundance. She was diagnosed with a brain tumor right before her 5th birthday, but even through treatments she still came to swim practice. Sundance swim team allowed her to have some "normal summer kid fun". Gabby loved purple, coke-flavored slurpees. and swimming.  She sang, danced, laughed and swam her way through treatments.

It is in her memory that The Gabby Krause Foundation was started, and in her spirit that the Bags of Fun program began. Gabby had the original Bag of Fun filled with toys and fun activities when she was battling her cancer. Her bag helped keep her busy and happy during long hospital visits. To the delight of other patients, she always shared her games and toys.  It was Gabby’s wish that every child at the hospital could have their very own Bag of Fun.

The Gabby Krause Foundation was started because of Gabby’s special wish. The signature project, Bags of Fun, was created in the spirit of Gabby’s original bag of toys and fun activities that kept her happy and silly during hours of treatment.

The Gabby Krause Foundation delivers Bags of Fun to children fighting cancer and other long-term illnesses. Bags of Fun are filled with educational, interactive toys to brighten these kids' days with laughter, love, and joy. The Gabby Krause Foundation has given thousands of Bags of Fun to sick children throughout the Denver metro area and has begun expanding nationally. Each Bag of Fun backpack is valued at over $400 each.

Each year, the Sundance Hills Swim Team hosts a swim-a-thon in which swimmers will swim laps during their regular practice times to benefit The Gabby Krause Foundation and Bags of Fun. Swimmers can set a goal for themselves and ask for donations and encouragement to help them meet their goals. Donations can be based on the swimmer's personal goal of a flat amount. The suggested donation is $1 per lap, but the goal is for Sundance to have 100% participation, even if it's just $1. It is a fun-filled, meaningful event.

We encourage every swimmer to come and share in this wonderful experience. MUDSKIPPERS TOO!!!! Parents come encourage and cheer on swimmers.
