Sailfish Scoop - 05.24.2023

    HELLO SAILFISH!

Can you believe that school will be out in TWO DAYS!!!! Yahoo!!! Hopefully the weather holds after school gets out on Friday and we’re all able to have a fun afternoon and evening at our pool.

Here is your SCOOP for this Wednesday...

(Brand new stuff in each SCOOP will have BLUE headings, for those of you who memorized what we sent in previous SCOOPS…)

REMINDER - PRACTICE SCHEDULE CHANGES NEXT WEEK

Reminder: We switch to our regular season practice schedule, starting next Tuesday, May 30. The practice schedule is posted on the homepage of our website for your quick reference. For those of you wanting to sign up for evening practices, we will be sending out a sign-up for the whole season in the Sailfish SCOOP this coming Sunday.

    DO YOU NEED GOGGLES?

Swimmers- make sure you have your goggles ready for each meet! This year we will be selling a small supply of goggles for emergencies, but due to price increases they will be more expensive than in years past. We would recommend that you order goggles ahead of time through our link on the website, MI Sports in person, Amazon, or any other swim store!

    MEMORIAL DAY POTLUCK

All Sailfish families are invited to attend the Sundance Hills Memorial Day Potluck on Sunday, May 28 from 5:30 - 9:00 pm. See attached flyer for details and please register your family here.

    FUN MEET DECLARATIONS

The FUN MEET is next Thursday evening, June 1st from 6-8pm for ALL swimmers and families at the Sundance Pool! This FUN Sailfish event is just like a real meet with races but it's not competitive against another team; it's all for fun! Swimmers will only be swimming in the events you sign them up for using the Swimmer Declaration Instructions. (Read the next section for these instructions.) Swimmers will be swimming shortened races, just 25s & 50s to keep things efficient and easy breezy. We are encouraging everyone to make it to this get-together, practice a meet, and all that goes with it--a chance to practice timing, heating, cheering and spending time together! We are excited to see you there!

DECLARE YOUR SWIMMER(S) FOR MEETS THIS SEASON
The Sailfish use SwimTopia to share information with you via email, it’s our team website, it organizes your volunteer shifts and it keeps track of our swimmers’ races and results. This year, all of this information will be housed in one place, on our website, or on the app called “SwimTopia” (with an orange and blue icon of a wave and sunshine.Download it now!). You have visited the website for registration and volunteer shifts, and now we’d like you to familiarize yourselves with declaring which meets your swimmer will swim throughout the season. Here’s how:

    1. Log in to our website (located in the upper right-hand corner) or log in to the SwimTopia app with the same email and password you use online.
    2. Check out the “Upcoming Events” calendar column (located on the right-hand side), scroll to the June 1 Fun Meet event & click “Meet Entry.” On the app, scroll and select the meet date, and then click “Meet Signup.”
    3. You will now see the swimmer’s Meet Entry Status for that meet. Click “Edit” to let the team coaches know if the swimmer will or will not attend the meet. If your swimmer will attend, a drop-down menu will appear of all the individual events your swimmer is eligible to swim. Check each box your swimmer would like to swim, keeping in mind their ability to swim the full race without getting disqualified, and sign up for the right number of events so your swimmer isn’t exhausted. We recommend swimming up to three individual events and both the Medley & Free relays.
    4. In Meet Entry Status, you will also indicate if your swimmer will be available to swim in the relays. Relays are a 4-person team effort to swim one race. Relays are a big part of the team fun and they give us big points toward winning the meet! We highly recommend swimming in both the Medley (the beginning of the meet @ 8am) and the Free relays (at the end of the meet @1-2pm). In this drop-down menu, you can share with the coach if your swimmer will be available at these times to swim with the team.
    5. Finally, click “Save.”

All meets for the season are “open” on SwimTopia for you to declare swimmer status. You can complete the above process on each calendar meet date ahead of time if you know your summer schedule or you can declare on SwimTopia (online or the app) by Wednesday @ 3pm of every week. Coaches will build the heat sheets on Thursdays so entries after Wednesday will not be permitted. We appreciate you assisting the coaches by completing the declaration whether your swimmer will or will not be swimming. We suggest filling out the declarations for the entire season and we will be giving you weekly reminders in the Sailfish SCOOP!

TEAM EMAILS FOR 11-18 YEAR OLDS

Would you like your 11-18 year old swimmer to receive team emails? Several of you have requested, and we are happy to oblige. This could be particularly useful if you have an older kid who needs to know when practices are cancelled for weather, etc. Please complete this form, and we will add your swimmer’s email to our lists.

    VOLUNTEER SHIFT SIGN UP

Please sign up for all volunteer shifts ASAP. We have added additional volunteer shifts across the season. Families who have not signed up for the 6 required points by May 22 will be charged the volunteer opt out fee. Please reach out to Lisa or Tara with questions or concerns.

    HELP US FIND MORE SWIMMERS

We still have plenty of room for more swimmers and there is still plenty of time to sign up for the season. Please help up spread the word about our AWESOME team. YOU are the best recruiting tool that we have.

    CALLING ALL BIG KIDS

The Big Kids program is back this year and better than ever! We have a ton of fun events planned, and new ways to communicate events so you and your Big Kid can stay in the loop. If you have a Sailfish swimmer that is a rising 7th grader or older, please take the following steps:

    1. Check out our new Big Kids page! This will be updated as we add events throughout the year.
    2. Fill out this Google form! This will ensure that both you and your Big Kids have a finger on the pulse of all things Big Kids this year.
    3. Order merch! Check out the Big Kid only merch available on the Big Kids page.
    4. Talk up the Big Kids program with your kids. We know they'll have a great time hanging with their friends outside the pool and we want to get them excited about it!

That’s the news for this edition of the Sailfish SCOOP.

Life is better when you are swimming!
