Sailfish SCOOP - 06.04.2023

    HELLO SAILFISH !!!!

We hope that everyone has had a chance to warm up from yesterday’s meet. It may have been cold and rainy, but the Sailfish prevailed. Yahoo!!!

We have a good bit coming up in the next couple weeks - So here’s your SCOOP for today.

REMINDER - FUN DAY MONDAY IS TOMORROW

Fun Day Monday means two things: First, coaches will have some special, extra-fun activities planned for swimmers. Second, if you attend practice in the morning, we’ll have a donuts at the conclusion of practice. How awesome is that?

DECLARE YOUR SWIMMER(S) FOR OUR JUNE 10 HOME MEET
Our first home meet of the season is next Saturday, June 10. Please make sure you declare your swimmer(s) for this meet by 3:00 pm on Wednesday, June 7.

    Forget how? KEEP READING.

The Sailfish use SwimTopia to share information with you via email, it’s our team website, it organizes your volunteer shifts and it keeps track of our swimmers’ races and results. This year, all of this information will be housed in one place, on our website, or on the app called “SwimTopia” (with an orange and blue icon of a wave and sunshine.Download it now!). You have visited the website for registration and volunteer shifts, and now we’d like you to familiarize yourselves with declaring which meets your swimmer will swim throughout the season. Here’s how:

    1. Log in to our website (located in the upper right-hand corner) or log in to the SwimTopia app with the same email and password you use online.
    2. Check out the “Upcoming Events” calendar column (located on the right-hand side), scroll to the June 1 Fun Meet event & click “Meet Entry.” On the app, scroll and select the meet date, and then click “Meet Signup.”
    3. You will now see the swimmer’s Meet Entry Status for that meet. Click “Edit” to let the team coaches know if the swimmer will or will not attend the meet. If your swimmer will attend, a drop-down menu will appear of all the individual events your swimmer is eligible to swim. Check each box your swimmer would like to swim, keeping in mind their ability to swim the full race without getting disqualified, and sign up for the right number of events so your swimmer isn’t exhausted. We recommend swimming up to three individual events and both the Medley & Free relays.
    4. In Meet Entry Status, you will also indicate if your swimmer will be available to swim in the relays. Relays are a 4-person team effort to swim one race. Relays are a big part of the team fun and they give us big points toward winning the meet! We highly recommend swimming in both the Medley (the beginning of the meet @ 8am) and the Free relays (at the end of the meet @1-2pm). In this drop-down menu, you can share with the coach if your swimmer will be available at these times to swim with the team.
    5. Finally, click “Save.”

All meets for the season are “open” on SwimTopia for you to declare swimmer status. You can complete the above process on each calendar meet date ahead of time if you know your summer schedule or you can declare on SwimTopia (online or the app) by Wednesday 3pm of every week. Coaches will build the heat sheets on Thursdays so entries after Wednesday will not be permitted. We appreciate you assisting the coaches by completing the declaration whether your swimmer will or will not be swimming. We suggest filling out the declarations for the entire season and we will be giving you weekly reminders in the Sailfish SCOOP!

Please add your swimmer's name to this Google Sheet. If you have any questions, please contact Lydia-Ann Champeau, our Clerk of Course. We count all 7 years of swimming (even Mudskippers) and also during those "funny" summers with COVID. Looking forward to celebrating this amazing achievement with you!

TEAM EMAILS FOR 11-18 YEAR OLDS

Would you like your 11-18 year old swimmer to receive team emails? Several of you have requested, and we are happy to oblige. This could be particularly useful if you have an older kid who needs to know when practices are cancelled for weather, etc. Please complete this form, and we will add your swimmer’s email to our lists.

    SUPER SWIMMER RECOGNITION

Don't forget to let us know about any Super Swimmers! We have already had some swimmers nominated, and we know there are more out there!

Here are the Super Swimmer details again.

We want to be able to recognize when a swimmer does something that made them a "Super Swimmer." It is a way to recognize individual goals and accomplishments of a swimmer, and we understand that we have a wide range of swimmer skills and swimmer goals. This is something the swimmer is working on or means something to the swimmer. This is for mudskippers too!!!

Some examples of being a "Super Swimmer"

    1. Beating a time
    2. Overcoming a fear and racing in a race
    3. Swimming in an event they have never done before or swimming a stroke they have never done before
    4. Doing a relay for the first time
    5. Swimming without a coach in the water
    6. Swimming a race without DQing
    7. Being brave when heating
    8. Getting in the water or putting face in the water
    9. Breaking a record
    10. Any type of challenge or goal that the swimmer is working on.

When your swimmer has an accomplishment that they want recognized, please email Natalie Messersmith about the accomplishment and other pertinent information. Please submit by Sunday of each week, and the swimmer will receive something small in their folders (that hold the ribbons) later in the week.

    SAILFISH LOST & FOUND

We have created a label "SAILFISH MEET LOST & FOUND" bin which will live on the bottom shelf of the Sundance pool lost and found shelf. If you pick up a stranded item at an away meet, please place it in our bin at the pool. If you loose something at a meet, please check out bin. If you loose OR find something of high value, please email the parent reps so that we can reunite the item with the owner. P.S. prescription glasses were found at the meet this weekend - let us know if they belong to you.

That’s all there is for this edition of the Sailfish SCOOP!  See you all at the pool this week!

Life is better when you are swimming!
