Sailfish SCOOP - 06.21.2023

    HELLO SAILFISH!!!

[I’m BACK!!! Did you miss me? A huge thank you goes to Amy and Molly for covering team emails while I was in New York for a work trip and a quick family getaway! As Dionne Warwick would say, “That’s what friends are for…” And for those of you wondering, yes, Brooks is now an expert at hailing cabs and riding subway trains, as expected.]

Lots to cover again so let’s get this SCOOP going…

    SWIMMING UNDER THE STARS TOMORROW

Our annual Swimming Under the Stars event is tomorrow, Thursday, June 22. It’s a potluck, so be sure the bring the food you signed up to bring and your own drinks! We start at 5:30 pm, dinner at 5:45 pm, and then LOTS of fun and games planned by our stellar team of Colleen Kaufman and Lindsay Moriarty. We also understand that there will be a **SPECIAL** surprise guest coach in attendance and helping us to get the fun going. We will wrap things up at 9:00 pm. A couple notes:

    • Swim team members should wear a swimsuit (not necessarily their team suit) and be ready to swim. The fun we have planned requires that they get wet!
    • The Sundance Hills HOA is also hosting food trucks tomorrow evening, so please watch and abide by any no parking signs you see around the pool. (If the potluck doesn’t suit your dietary needs, THIS is your backup plan!)
    • The weather tomorrow has the potential for thunderstorms. Please watch for an email to come your way if we have to delay or cancel.

    AWAY MEET - THIS SATURDAY

The Sailfish face off against Cherry Creek Vista at CCV’s pool this coming Saturday, June 24. We faced the Vikings last year at CCHS, our home-away-from-home. It’s been more than a couple years since we’ve swam against them at either of our home pools. In days of yore, the Sundance Hills-CCV rivalry was fierce and friendly—almost to the level of CU-CSU or Ohio State-Michigan (GO BUCKS!). Help us bring back that rivalry in a friendly way. Cheer! BRING YOUR SPIRIT!!! Wear your Sailfish gear! Represent our beloved team in the best way possible. As usual, we’ll send out all the details on Friday - late afternoon or early evening. A couple details for you before then:

    • Sundance Hills swimmers will warm up between 7:15 am and 7:45 am.
    • The first race will start promptly at 8:00 am.

    Stay tuned for the rest!

    SWIM-A-THON NEXT THURSDAY, JUNE 29

We are excited and honored to be hosting our Annual Sundance Hills Swim-A-Thon.

This Swim-A-Thon started 12 years ago to honor a 6year old swimmer named Gabby Krause who swam on the Sundance Hills swim team. Every time Gabby dove into the pool she gave it her all and this was all while she was battling brain cancer. She never let her discomfort and pain get in her way of all of the fun things that were put in front of herwhile she was in the fight of her life. This is why the Swim-A-Thon was started, with funds going to Bags of Fun.

Bags of Fun is an organization that delivers joy, laughter and relief to kids who are in the fight of their lives through Bags of Fun. These Bags are custom created for each child with therapeutic, manipulative and silly toys along with a kindle Fire, Amazon gift card and many other items designed to allow these kids to PLAY while they are in the hospital. Each purposefully created Bag of Fun is valued at $400.

The Swim-A-Thon will be run during regular practice time on Thursday, June 29. Each swimmer will receive an envelope to collect pledges and/or ask for direct credit card donations on the Bags of Fun website. You can also use the attached QR code to get donations. We will be collecting the envelopes at the Swim-A-Thon event on Thursday. The day will be fun with music, treats, and a big prize for the top 20 kids who raise the most money for Bags of Fun.

    SUPER SWIMMER RECOGNITION

Don't forget to let us know about any Super Swimmers! We have already had some swimmers nominated, and we know there are more out there!

Here are the Super Swimmer details again.

We want to be able to recognize when a swimmer does something that made them a "Super Swimmer." It is a way to recognize individual goals and accomplishments of a swimmer, and we understand that we have a wide range of swimmer skills and swimmer goals. This is something the swimmer is working on or means something to the swimmer. This is for mudskippers too!!!

Some examples of being a "Super Swimmer"

    1. Beating a time
    2. Overcoming a fear and racing in a race
    3. Swimming in an event they have never done before or swimming a stroke they have never done before
    4. Doing a relay for the first time
    5. Swimming without a coach in the water
    6. Swimming a race without DQing
    7. Being brave when heating
    8. Getting in the water or putting face in the water
    9. Breaking a record
    10. Any type of challenge or goal that the swimmer is working on.

When your swimmer has an accomplishment that they want recognized, please email Natalie Messersmith about the accomplishment and other pertinent information. Please submit by Sunday of each week, and the swimmer will receive something small in their folders (that hold the ribbons) later in the week.

    COACHES’ FAVORITE THINGS

We are so lucky to have the amazing swim team coaching staff that we do this year! If you’d like to show some extra thanks throughout the season, click here to be directed to some of their favorite things! You'll find favorite snacks, colors, important allergy information and more!

    SAILFISH LOST & FOUND

We have created a label "SAILFISH MEET LOST & FOUND" bin which will live on the bottom shelf of the Sundance pool lost and found shelf. If you pick up a stranded item at an away meet, please place it in our bin at the pool. If you loose something at a meet, please check out bin. If you loose OR find something of high value, please email the parent reps so that we can reunite the item with the owner. P.S. prescription glasses were found at the meet this weekend - let us know if they belong to you.

That’s all there is for this edition of the Sailfish SCOOP!

See you all Swimming Under the Stars!!!

Life is better when you are swimming!
