Sailfish SCOOP - Wednesday, June 28, 2023

    Hello Sailfish!!!

Before we get into our Wednesday SCOOP, I have a confession to make. I am a dad joke aficionado. So here’s a dad joke for you to kick things off:

    • What is a caveman’s favorite pastime?
[You’ll have to read to the end of the scoop to get the answer.]
Now let’s get to it. Here’s your SCOOP for this Wednesday, June 28, 2023.
    SWIM-A-THON TOMORROW, THURSDAY, JUNE 29

We are excited and honored to be hosting our Annual Sundance Hills Swim-A-Thon tomorrow, June 29.

***UPDATE*** There’s an error in the online donation form link we received, and there is no place to indicate our team or your swimmer. If you make your donation online, please note in the “Comments” section “Sundance Hills Sailfish, Swimmers Name.”  If you have already made an online donation, please send a note to our team email to let us know and we can take care of it. Thanks so much!

This Swim-A-Thon started 12 years ago to honor a 6year old swimmer named Gabby Krause who swam on the Sundance Hills swim team. Every time Gabby dove into the pool she gave it her all and this was all while she was battling brain cancer. She never let her discomfort and pain get in her way of all of the fun things that were put in front of herwhile she was in the fight of her life. This is why the Swim-A-Thon was started, with funds going to Bags of Fun.

Bags of Fun is an organization that delivers joy, laughter and relief to kids who are in the fight of their lives through Bags of Fun. These Bags are custom created for each child with therapeutic, manipulative and silly toys along with a kindle Fire, Amazon gift card and many other items designed to allow these kids to PLAY while they are in the hospital. Each purposefully created Bag of Fun is valued at $400.

The Swim-A-Thon will be run during regular practice time on Thursday, June 29. Each swimmer will receive an envelope to collect pledges and/or ask for direct credit card donations on the Bags of Fun website. You can also use the attached QR code to get donations. We will be collecting the envelopes at the Swim-A-Thon event on Thursday. The day will be fun with music, treats, and a big prize for the top 20 kids who raise the most money for Bags of Fun.

NO MEET THIS SATURDAY, JULY 1, AND NO PRACTICES ON JULY 3 & 4
Enough said. Sleep in or go for an early morning walk or run. Make your kids pancakes for breakfast. (Or if you’re brave, have them make you pancakes!) Enjoy the beautiful Colorado morning sunshine!!!

    SUPER SWIMMER RECOGNITION

Don't forget to let us know about any Super Swimmers! We have already had some swimmers nominated, and we know there are more out there!

Here are the Super Swimmer details again.

We want to be able to recognize when a swimmer does something that made them a "Super Swimmer." It is a way to recognize individual goals and accomplishments of a swimmer, and we understand that we have a wide range of swimmer skills and swimmer goals. This is something the swimmer is working on or means something to the swimmer. This is for mudskippers too!!!

Some examples of being a "Super Swimmer"

    1. Beating a time
    2. Overcoming a fear and racing in a race
    3. Swimming in an event they have never done before or swimming a stroke they have never done before
    4. Doing a relay for the first time
    5. Swimming without a coach in the water
    6. Swimming a race without DQing
    7. Being brave when heating
    8. Getting in the water or putting face in the water
    9. Breaking a record
    10. Any type of challenge or goal that the swimmer is working on.

When your swimmer has an accomplishment that they want recognized, please email Natalie Messersmith about the accomplishment and other pertinent information. Please submit by Sunday of each week, and the swimmer will receive something small in their folders (that hold the ribbons) later in the week.
