Sailfish SCOOP - 05.28.2024

    HELLO SAILFISH FAMILY!!!

I hope you all had a great Memorial Day weekend. If you didn’t catch any time at the pool, the place was hopping! Lot’s of news in this issue of the SCOOP regarding our first meets of the season.

You won’t want to miss our JUST-FOR-FUN MEET this Thursday. Besides the swimming, we’ll have some music (maybe a pool-ka or two?), concessions (pizza and drinks!!!), and a CANDY BAR for the kids after they race, and maybe a special surprise or two.

Be there or be square 🟦 🟨.

Now for the rest of the SCOOP…

    DECLARE YOUR SWIMMERS FOR MEETS

Remember that email from Coach Henry asking you to get your swimmers registered for meets? (I do. I read ALL the emails. So does Susan Buckheit. You should try to be as cool as we are…) If you’re like me, you can’t remember how to declare your swimmers, however. GOOD NEWS!!! We’ve got a webpage that tells you how. CLICK HERE and read all about it!

HOW TO PREPARE FOR YOUR FIRST SWIM MEET

With our ‘Just For Fun’ meet coming up on Thursday and our first home meet this Saturday; we want to ensure all our swimmers are prepared! This document contains a WEALTH of information for new families AND families who could use a refresher on their swim meet knowledge! PLEASE read through this important information thoroughly, and if you still have questions, don’t hesitate to reach out to your coaches or parent reps this week! (SEE ATTACHMENT AT THE END OF THIS EMAIL

VOLUNTEER SHIFTS - SWITCHING SHIFTS & CONCESSIONS SHIFTS

If you need to switch a volunteer shift, email TARA ZIMMERMAN and KAKIE ATWELL with the shift you are picking up and the one you cannot make. If you do not have a replacement shift identified, it is your responsibility to find coverage for your shift. If you can't find coverage, consider hiring a teenager 16 years of age or older. Also, if you are a concession stand volunteer, please do not have your children assist during your shift. We know it's fun, but we want to make sure adults are the ones dealing with the money and food. Thank you!

    CALLING ALL BIG KIDS!

RISING 7th GRADERS AND OLDER SIGN UP HERE!

The Big Kids program is back this year and better than ever! We have a ton of fun events planned, and new ways to communicate events so you and your Big Kid can stay in the loop. If you have a Sailfish swimmer that is a rising 7th grader or older, please take the following steps:

    1. Check out our new BIG KIDS PAGE! This will be updated as we add events throughout the year.
    2. Fill out this GOOGLE FORM! This will ensure that both you and your Big Kids have a finger on the pulse of all things Big Kids this year.
    3. Talk up the Big Kids program with your kids. We know they'll have a great time hanging with their friends outside the pool and we want to get them excited about it!
    4. Not sure? Encourage your Big Kid to attend the first event. It's super chill and low commitment - stop by for a donut on the first Friday morning practice, 5/31.

    EVENING PRACTICES SIGN UP - JUNE 3 & 5

We will once again be offering evening practices for those swimmers who have other morning commitments, such as camp. These practices will be on Mondays & Wednesdays from 5:30 - 6:30 pm. We will be posting the sign up for each week’s evening practices in the Sailfish SCOOP on Tuesday of the week prior to these practices.

Here is the SIGN UP for evening practices on June 3 and 5.

You must sign up in advance if you wish to attend these practices because we only have space for 18 swimmers. If you practice in the morning, you do not need to attend evening practices. Mudskippers may not attend evening practices.

We will use 3 lanes for this practice and the Sundance Pool will remain open for families and other swimmers. Come watch your kid practices and then dinner at the pool when you’re finished!

WANT TO PERFORM THE NATIONAL ANTHEM - WE’RE LOOKING FOR YOU!!!

Who else is old enough to remember Whitney Houston sing the National Anthem at the Super Bowl in 1991? Who had heard Hendrix SHREDDING the National Anthem at Woodstock?

The Sailfish are looking for a budding Whitney or Hendrix (or Kenny G??? Yanni???) to perform the National Anthem at the start of our meets on June 1 and June 22.

EMAIL AMY if you or your child is interested.

    BAGS OF FUN SWIM-A-THON

On Thursday, June 20th we will host the Sundance Hills Swim-A-Thon as usual during regularly scheduled practice times. At 5pm we invite swimmers and families, current and past, as well as the Sundance Hills Community at Large to join us for an evening of joy, laughter and REUNION to come together to remember all of the amazing reasons that this community is the place that Gabby spent her summers. We will be inviting as many former swimmers and coaches as we can find to return to the pool, dust off their caps and goggles, and spend an evening of food, fun, and friendly competition. We will celebrate the swimmers who raised the most, swam the furthest, cheered the loudest, and give current swimmers a chance to make all of us feel really, really old. Please register HERE and let us know how many people in your family will be joining us!

    Okay Sailfish Family - That’s tonight’s SCOOP.

See you all at the pool, because, as you know by now…

LIFE IS BETTER AT THE POOL.
