Sailfish SCOOP - 06.15.2024
HELLO SAILFISH FAMILY!!!
Awesome job at today’s meet! Let’s all congratulate our swimmers and fans for representing our community so well!
Now, you may be asking yourself, “Where’s the joke tonight? It’s coming. I promise. Read on.
First, however, here’s your Sailfish SCOOP for this beautiful Saturday evening!
BAGS OF FUN SWIM-A-THON
One of the ties that bind the Sailfish Family in a most important way is our annual participation in the Bags of Fun Swim-a-Thon.
This Swim-A-Thon started 20 years ago to honor a 6-year old swimmer named Gabby Krause who swam on the Sundance Hills swim team. Every time Gabby dove into the pool she gave it her all and this was all while she was battling brain cancer. She never let her discomfort and pain get in her way of all of the fun things that were put in front of her while she was in the fight of her life. This is why the Swim-A-Thon was started, with funds going to Bags of Fun.
Bags of Fun is an organization that delivers joy, laughter and relief to kids who are in the fight of their lives through Bags of Fun. These Bags are custom created for each child with therapeutic, manipulative, and silly toys along with a kindle Fire, Amazon gift card, and many other items designed to allow these kids to PLAY while they are in the hospital. Each purposefully created Bag of Fun is valued at $400. Over the last 20 years, the Sailfish Family has raised several hundred thousand dollars (exact amount forthcoming…) for Bags of Fun.
The Swim-A-Thon will be run during regular practice time on Thursday, June 20. The day will be fun with music, treats, and a few surprises.
More information on our WEBSITE.
Your swimmers should have come home with donation envelopes this past Thursday. If you would prefer to collect or submit donations online, you can use THIS LINK. (If your kids have out-of-town grandparents and aunts and uncles like mine do, this is a GREAT way to include them in this meaningful act of giving!)
BAGS OF FUN SWIM-A-THON REUNION AND PARTY
In the evening Thursday, June 20th, after our swimmers swim their hearts out for the Swim-A-Thon, during regularly scheduled practice times, we will PARTY.
From 5:00-8:00 p.m., our wonderful swimmers and their families are invited for an evening of joy and laughter and to celebrate all of the amazing reasons that this community is the place that Gabby loved to spend her summers. We will be joined by many of Gabby's Sailfish coaches, as well as many former Sailfish swimmers and parents.
Dinner and dessert will be provided, and there will also be an opportunity for kids and grownups alike to participate in a fun relay or two!
Please register HERE and let us know how many people in your family will be joining us!
MUDSKIPPER PARENT MEET-AND-GREET
Are you a Mudskipper Parent? If so, we’d like to invite you to a Mudskipper Parent Meet-and-Greet on Monday, June 17, during all Mudskipper practice times. The Sailfish put a priority on community-building, and we want to be sure that the parents of the newest members of our swim team get a proper introduction. We’ll have coffee and a few goodies for you to enjoy while you take a moment to introduce yourself to your kids’ newest best friends’ parents! Please join us!
EVENING PRACTICE SIGN-UP - JUNE 17 & 19
Here is the SIGN UP for evening practices on June 17 & 19, 5:30-6:30 pm.
You must sign up in advance if you wish to attend these practices because we only have space for 18 swimmers. If you practice in the morning, you do not need to attend evening practices. Mudskippers may not attend evening practices.
We will use 3 lanes for this practice and the Sundance Pool will remain open for families and other swimmers. Come watch your kid practices and then dinner at the pool when you’re finished.
SWIMMING UNDER THE STARS - PLEASE RSVP
Save-the-date for Wednesday, June 26 from 5:30-9:00 PM because we're gearing up for some MAJOR fun. Our annual Swimming Under the Stars is almost here! Enjoy a Team Potluck and (back by popular demand) Cookie Bake-Off followed by some well-deserved splash-about fun for swimmers and their coaches. Good food, friendly competition, team building, prizes and, of course, the best summer memories Sundance has to offer. Need we say more? RSVP TODAY!
A NOTE ON TIMESTAMPS IN SWIMTOPIA
Swimtopia predicts the time that it thinks races will occur, as indicated by the timestamp that appears next to events on the app. These timestamps are just estimates and are not necessarily the time that a race will actually occur. Parents and swimmer: PLEASE TRACK WHEN EVENTS ARE HEATING using the numbers that are posted by the heating area at each race. The higher number is the race that’s currently occurring; the lower number is the race that’s heating. If you need to leave the meet for some reason and plan to return to swim, please ask someone staying at the meet to keep you informed about meet progress. This will help make sure you return in plenty of time for their races.
That’s all the SCOOP for tonight.
And in honor of Father’s Day tomorrow, I present you with what I consider to be the best dad joke of all time:
Q: What do you call a fish with no eyes?
A: “FSH”
Try to read that to your kid without laughing… I promise, you’ll both laugh.
Happy Father’s Day to all the Sailfish Dads out there. Hope your day is AMAZING.
LIFE IS BETTER WHEN YOU ARE SWIMMING!
