Sailfish SCOOP - June 25, 2025

    AVAST, YE SAILFISH FAMILY!!!

(Can you tell that I’m excited about our Pirate’s Cove night this coming Sunday? If you wish to meet me for a parley, I’ll be cruising the lazy river most of the night.)

Thanks to all who participated in today’s Bags of Fun Swimathon, and congratulations to so many of our swimmers for having some pretty impressive lap totals. (If you’ve yet to make your donation or pledge, it’s not too late! Scan the QR code on the envelope your swimmer received, or ask for an envelope at practice tomorrow!)

We have lots to cover, so let’s get going with this evening’s SCOOP!

📸 PHOTO ORDERS - CLEARING UP CONFUSION!

We’ve received a few questions about team photos following the ordering links sent out by Imagtek yesterday.

    Each swimmer will automatically receive:

    • One 5x7 individual photo
    • One 8x10 team photo

These are included as part of your team fees and will be distributed in person at the pool.

You only need to use the Imagtek link if you’d like to order additional prints or the digital versions.

Apologies for any confusion, and thank you for your understanding!

MEET AT STONEGATE THIS SATURDAY, JUNE 28

That’s right, we swim against one of the bigger teams in the league this Saturday for our final regular-season meet. Stonegate is usually a formidable team to swim against, but the Sailfish ALWAYS show up ready to swim and give the Stingrays a solid challenge. Let’s put our Sailfish fins into overdrive and all show up to cheer our team onto a solid performance and a WIN! Here are a couple pointers to get you through the day:

    • As usual, Coach Lyndsay will send out heat sheets and other announcements in an email on Friday. Expected race times on the heat sheets are only estimates. (Stonegate has an 8-lane pool, so meets there typically move at a pretty good pace.)
    • The first race starts at 8 am sharp. Warm up times will come in Friday’s email.
BIG FISH / LITTLE FISH CHALLENGE

Big Fish and Little Fish—you’re truly the best! And parents, we couldn’t do it without you. Thank you for your incredible support and for embracing our vision of building a season filled with teamwork, encouragement, and connection!

This week’s challenge is a fun one—with a twist! During practice or at Saturday’s meet, team up with another Big Fish/Little Fish pair and snap a group photo. That means your picture should have at least 4 swimmers in it! Want to go above and beyond? Bonus points if your photo includes 3 or more full Big Fish/Little Fish teams!

The first group photo to hit Carolyn’s EMAIL wins a prize!!! So gather your teams and get those smiles ready!

    SHIVER ME TIMBERS!!!

    🚨 DECLARATIONS FOR PRELIMS / FINALS 🚨

It’s time to declare your swimmers for Prelims! If you are new to our team or have never had a swimmer participating in Prelims, please consider doing so. It’s a great experience and a tough challenge that often becomes THE highlight of the season for our swimmers.

The deadline for declaring for Prelims is Tuesday, July 1, at 3:59 pm SHARP. After this time, declarations are locked and the league will NOT allow late declarations—only scratches are allowed. Relay swimmers must also be declared prior to this deadline.
If you are unsure about which events your swimmer should swim at Prelims, please talk to their coach or to Coach Lyndsay. Please indicate on the online declaration form if they are interested swimming in a relay. (We are limited to two relay teams per event. Relay teams are determined by top times for swimmers this season, but Coach Lyndsay will need to know if your swimmer will be attending prelims in order to put them on a relay team.)
The dates for Prelims are as follows:
    • Monday, July 7 - Ages 13 - 18 at Stonegate
    • Tuesday, July 8 - Ages 8 & under at Homestead
    • Wednesday, July 9 - Ages 9-10 at Heritage Greens
    • Thursday, July 10 - Ages 11-12 at Homestead Farms II
    • Friday, July 11 - Make-up day for any rainouts
The top 16 finishers for each event (plus two alternates, in case of scratches) move on to the Finals on Saturday, July 12 at Cherry Creek Vista.
Weigh anchor and get declare your swimmers ASAP!!!
    SEVEN YEAR AWARD WINNERS

At our end-of-season banquet each year we recognize swimmers who have been on the team for 7 years. If this year is your child’s seventh year as a Sailfish, please let our Clerk of Course, Rachel Langley, know by Friday, June 27th. You can text Rachel at 303-854-8280.

Rachel will need the following information:

    • First and last name of swimmer
    • Swimmer birth year
    • Parent first and last name
    • We count all 7 years of swimming (even Mudskippers) and also during those "funny" summers with COVID.

If you have any questions, please let Rachel know.

CALLING ALL 8 & UNDER PARENTS

Hi there! We are in need of TWO fabulous 8 & Under parents to help at the Prelims meet on Tuesday July 8th. We need a timer from 10-12 and someone to manage the team tent set up and tear down. If your kiddo is swimming at this Prelim meet, please consider taking on one of these shifts. EMAIL Tara to claim your hero status. Thank you in advance!

    SNAG THE SAILFISH SPONSOR HAT

You may have seen the crisp white hats with the blue and yellow Sundance logo patch making their way around the pool deck and here’s your chance to snag one!

Yellow-level sponsor Passage Wealth Partners has graciously underwritten high-quality, breathable, trendy hats as a fundraiser for the Sundance Sailfish! Perfect for adults and teens alike, these custom Branded Bills hats are a functional and fashionable way to support the team! Thank you, Tara and Royce for your years of support!

Hats can be purchased by EMAILING Bailey Foley ([email protected])

Whew! That’s quite a slog of announcements! But, since you made it this far, you get one more pirate joke:

What do you call a Pirate with one eye?

(Answer appears below my signature line!)

Have a great rest of the week and see you all at Stonegate on Saturday!

LIFE IS BETTER AT THE POOL!!!

    PAUL BAUMANN

    Secretary, Sundance Sailfish Parent Board

(The answer — A pirate with one eye is a PIRATE! There’s only one ‘I’ in the word already. The trickier question, by far, is what you call a Pirate with two eyes… Figure that one out if you can. 🙃)
