Sailfish SCOOP - Sunday, May 24, 2026

    HELLO SAILFISH FAMILY!!!

Happy Memorial Day weekend! Happy summer! Life IS better at the pool!

We’ve got lots to cover tonight, so let’s get to it!

Here’s your SCOOP for this Sunday, May 24:

    SAILFISH PLEDGE REMINDER

Please ensure you and your swimmer(s) review the Sailfish Pledge together as a family and sign a copy. We ask that you plan to deliver your signed copy to the front desk or a coach at any afternoon practice. If you have not yet turned in your signed copy, please do so at practice this Tuesday, May 26. (A .pdf of the pledge is attached for you to print if needed.)

This week, we will focus on three themes:

    • S - Strive to do my best! Remember, effort and determination help us all grow!
    • A - Act with kindness and respect toward teammates, coaches, competitors, and spectators!
    • I - Include and encourage others, being a good friend and helper!

Please help to reinforce these themes with your swimmers this week!

DECLARE YOUR SWIMMERS FOR THE FUN MEET AND AWAY MEET AT HOMESTEAD

It’s time to declare your swimmers for our first meets! (How exciting is that!) Please read the email that Coach Lyndsay sent earlier this week for her directions on signing up.

Declarations for both these meets are due TOMORROWMonday, May 25.

    JUST-FOR-FUN MEET

    Wednesday, May 27, 5:00 PM

This is our practice meet - short and sweet. We run a limited set of races to give our swimmers some racing experience in a low-pressure setting. Swimmers should sign up for TWO races - Freestyle and another stroke of their choice. We will not swim relays at this event. (We’ll also be eating lots of pizza from Stefano’s and have a GREAT candy bar for swimmers after their races.)

    AWAY MEET AT HOMESTEAD

    Saturday, May 30, 8:00 AM

Our first “real” meet of the season. (Somehow our away meets at Homestead always bring snow and chilly temps. Let’s hope for warm weather this year!)

    HOW TO DECLARE:

Look 🚨 HERE 🚨 for all the directions you need.

DEADLINE for declarations for both meets is TOMORROWMonday, May 25

    PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT

Starting this Tuesday, May 26, we will begin our regular season practice schedule.

Look HERE for our morning practice schedule.

No morning practice on Monday, May 25 because of the Memorial Day holiday.

No morning practice on Wednesday, May 27 because of the fun meet that evening.

    EVENING PRACTICE SIGN-UP

This week, we will have evening practice on just one day - Thursday, May 28, from 5:30 - 6:30 PM.

The week of June 1, we will have evening practice on Monday, June 1 and Wednesday, June 3, both from 5:30 - 6:30 PM.

Click the link below to sign up!

THURSDAY, MAY 28 EVENING PRACTICE SIGN-UP

WEEK OF JUNE 1 EVENING PRACTICE SIGN-UP

Starting June 1, we will be offering two opportunities for evening practices each week. (As a reminder: per league rules, swimmers need to participate in TWO practices in a week to participate in that week’s meet. We offer two evening opportunities each week for swimmers who are unable to attend a morning practice. Of course, 5 practices per week is the best-case scenario.)

Generally, sign-ups for evening practices will appear here each Sunday, for the practices that are still a week away. Evening practices are from 5:30 - 6:30 pm, open to all competitive swimmers regardless of age group, and limited to 15 swimmers.

The pool is OPEN during these practices sessions — we only use three lanes for our evening practices. Your family is welcome to come swim while your sailfish practices.

    STROKE CLINIC SIGN-UP

Each week, our coaches will offer two stroke clinics for swimmers who wish to work on a specific stroke or skill (e.g., turns, diving off the block). These are completely optional, but are a great way for swimmers improve on the small details that can often boost their success at meets. We’ll have stroke clinics each Tuesday and Thursday during the regular season. Sign-ups for the stroke clinics will go out on Sundays, one week prior to the clinics. Space for each clinic is limited. Sign-up below.

*The cost for stroke clinics is $5 per session, payable by Venmo prior to the clinic: @sundance_sailfish

    Tuesday, June 2, 5:30 - 6:30 PM FREESTYLE AND/OR BACKSTROKE

    Thursday, June 4, 5:30 - 6:30 PM BREASTSTROKE

SIGN UP FOR STROKE CLINICS HERE.

    SUNDANCE BIG KIDS

    Calling All Big Kids!

The Big Kids program is back and we have a ton of fun events planned. If you have a Sailfish swimmer that is a rising 7th grader or older, please take the following steps:

    1. Check out our Big Kids page! This will be updated as we add events throughout the year.
    2. Fill out this Google form! This will ensure that both you and your Big Kids have a finger on the pulse of all things Big Kids this year.
    3. Talk up the Big Kids program with your kids. We know they'll have a great time hanging with their friends outside the pool and we want to get them excited about it!
    4. Subscribe the Big Kids calendar to stay in the loop on dates.

CALLING ALL VOLUNTEERS FOR TIMING, HEATING, & ALTERNATE POSITIONS

Reminder: We are holding a MANDATORY meeting this Wednesday, May 27, from 4:30 to 5:00 PM, on the pool deck, prior to the Just-for-Fun Meet. This informational meeting will help us ensure that EVERYONE is on the same page when it comes to heating and timing so that we run an efficient and fair meet.

If you are signed up for an alternate position, please plan to attend. You may be needed to fill one of these roles.

    Thank you!

This last item reminds me about the time I tried a timing shift. Apparently, “about a minute-ish” isn’t “official” enough for some people… #NotMySkillSet

Thats the SCOOP for this Sunday, May 24!

    Have a GREAT Memorial Day!

Life is better at the pool!
